Privacy Policy

Chiron Review and Chiron Review Press (“Chiron Review,” “we”) publish a literary magazine and books from St. John, Kansas. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and our mailings, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can and we do not sell personal information to anyone.

What we collect

• Orders and subscriptions. When you buy an issue, a book, a broadside or a subscription, we receive the name, mailing address, e-mail address and payment details needed to fulfil the order. Card and payment-account numbers are handled by our payment processors (Venmo or Zelle, or Lulu and Amazon where an issue is sold through them) and are not stored by us.
• Newsletter. If you sign up for our e-mail newsletter we keep your e-mail address, and your name if you give it, in order to send it to you.
• Submissions and contest entries. Poems, prose, cover letters and the contact details you send us by e-mail are kept for editorial purposes for as long as they are under consideration, and afterwards as part of the magazine’s records. Accepted work and its contributor information become part of the published record and the magazine’s archive.
• Correspondence. If you write to us, we keep the exchange for as long as we need it to reply and to keep our records.
• Website use. This site does not run analytics or advertising trackers. Our web host may keep ordinary server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.

How we use it

To fulfil and ship orders, to deliver subscriptions and the newsletter, to read, respond to and publish submissions, to run our poetry contest, to answer your questions, and to keep the records a small press needs to keep. We do not use your information for any purpose you would not expect from a literary magazine, and we do not sell, rent or trade it.

Who else sees it

We share information only with the services that help us do the things above: payment processors, our web host and e-mail provider, print-on-demand and shipping services, and the newsletter service we send from. Each receives only what it needs. Some buttons on this site take you to other companies’ stores (for example Lulu or Amazon) or to YouTube and Instagram; once there, their privacy policies apply, not ours. Videos on our Media page are embedded through YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player and load only when you press play.

How long we keep it

Order records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Submissions and correspondence are kept as part of the magazine’s archive; portions of that archive are deposited with the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University and other research libraries, as described on our Archived page.

Your choices

Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link. You may ask us at any time to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and we will do so unless we are required to keep it; write to us through the Contact page. Nothing on this site is directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes we will post the new version here with a new effective date.

Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files a website places on your device to remember something about you. This site is built as simple pages and sets no cookies of its own for tracking, analytics or advertising.

Cookies that may be set

• Ordering. This site has no shopping cart or checkout. Orders are placed by e-mail and paid through Zelle or Venmo in your own apps, so no store or payment cookies are set by this site; those services use cookies only within their own apps and websites, under their own policies.
• Embedded videos. Our Media page embeds YouTube videos through YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player. No YouTube cookie is set until you press play; when you do, YouTube may set cookies under its own policy.
• Newsletter sign-up. Signing up sends us a note from your own e-mail program; no cookie is set on this site.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the pages of this site will still work, though embedded video may not. Because we set no tracking cookies, we do not ask you to accept a cookie banner when you arrive.
