Decluttering a life
Marge Piercy
In old age, unless decrepit or ill
we become ruthless choosing
new friends, examining
all our relationships.
What activities do we find
necessary? What gives
enough pleasure to be worth
the effort; what doesn’t?
With whom do I really want
to spend what time I
have remaining? Who
do I really care about?
Yes, as time dwindles we
must be ruthless in our
choices so that we waste
none in polite nonsense.
