el amor brujo

Gerald Locklin
love turns gold to GOLD and silver to the skin of the agave. love knows the thirst of the mojave lizard and, like the saint, is never hungry. the breasts and womb of love defy all surgeries. the lovewitch tells man when to sink the blade and when to sheathe it. the lovewitch wakes him from his making and exhorts him down the yucca canyons of the double helix in the several directions of his love-strewn histories. love knows all dances, love invented them, and love knows that the dance of death is but one dance of many and death passeth as it pisseth in its petty pacing. love needs no belief in any life but this, for love has never lost a single life to death. love clicks its heels.
